Sleepless in Charlotte... Empty Sleepless in Charlotte...

Post by Erin-Elizabeth Thu Aug 28, 2014 9:49 am

I'm having a bit of a sleepless night, likely due to nerves and excitement about the trip to Atlanta in... oh.... five hours? My best friend got me into Cosplaying, a few years back, and I've just finished the biggest/most complex project that I have ever taken on. I'll be wearing it on Saturday. Smile For anyone that has seen the musical 'Wicked' and/or Frozen, this gown is a combination of Glinda's "Popular" dress and Anna's coronation gown. I'd share picture references but I don't want to go overboard with photos. Suffice it to say, I'm obscenely proud of this! Once more, my friend has succeeded in talking me into A.) Going blonde (via wig) and B.) Wearing pink. Lots and LOTS of pink.

Haha! I recognized this as Anna's gown, but I wondered why pink. Now I know.

Great job!

Thank you very much! It took a great deal of work, but it was worth it. ^_^ Here is one photo of both of our finished products. :p

Nice! What a creative concept, and it works. I can see both the influences. I just dressed up as regular Anna and my bestie was Elsa.

What did other people say of your costumes? (You could probably sell cosplay costumes, just sayin').

We were rather worried that not many people would get it, but a surprising number did! They just went crazy for it, aside from one rather snooty Elsa that we happened to encounter. She didn't say anything bad, but her expression was fairly disapproving. Ah well!

As for selling costumes, I think I'd cry if I had to make one for someone else. *whimper!* It's hard enough doing it for myself! :p I'm still learning. I'm oh so slowly evolving from modifying existing things to making things from scratch. The most difficult part on that skirt was the waistband, the rest was just sewing/serging in a straight line.

Granted, I was working without a pattern. I've only just discovered that Jo-Ann's has said pattern for adults. >.> I should get it. (Sorry about my babbling!)

Pfft, she (snooty Elsa) sounds like a party pooper. You probably wouldn't want her approval, anyway. I would have loved to see something so creative in person!

Oh, I know. Making one costume is nerve wracking enough. I'm a beginner at sewing, too. Thankfully, my mother sews, so she was able to guide me. But, with enough practice, you can make yourself all sorts of nifty things. The fact that you didn't even use a pattern is amazing, btw.

Yeah, I was practically living at different Jo-Ann's last month trying to get enough material for my Anna cape. I saw the patterns. Wish I would have known you then, I could have told you! Hahaha.

You're not babbling at all.

Thank you very much, Louis. Smile I appreciate the compliment.

And thank you, M, you really are sweet.

The only reason I even saw the pattern is because I now work at a Jo-Ann's, and I happened to spot a display with them, on my way up to the registers. I think my exact words were 'now where was this when I NEEDED it???'

Oh, you work at a Jo-Ann's now? Awesome.

Hahaha, the simple answer/way always comes around after the fact, eh? Ah well, you'll have access to all sorts of costumes now.

I would wander around in that store, just thinking of all of the possibilities, if I weren't generally stuck at a register. The only time I really get to look around is when we're closed.
