Le Vampire.

Post by Lestat on Wed Dec 24, 2014 3:01 am

Le Vampire
Toi qui, comme un coup de couteau,
Dans mon coeur plaintif es entrée;
Toi qui, forte comme un troupeau
De démons, vins, folle et parée,

De mon esprit humilié
Faire ton lit et ton domaine;
— Infâme à qui je suis lié
Comme le forçat à la chaîne,

Comme au jeu le joueur têtu,
Comme à la bouteille l'ivrogne,
Comme aux vermines la charogne
— Maudite, maudite sois-tu!

J'ai prié le glaive rapide
De conquérir ma liberté,
Et j'ai dit au poison perfide
De secourir ma lâcheté.

Hélas! le poison et le glaive
M'ont pris en dédain et m'ont dit:
«Tu n'es pas digne qu'on t'enlève
À ton esclavage maudit,

Imbécile! — de son empire
Si nos efforts te délivraient,
Tes baisers ressusciteraient
Le cadavre de ton vampire!»

~~~~~
The Vampire
You who, keen as a carving blade,
Into my plaintive heart has plunged,
You who, strong as a wild array
Of crazed and costumed cacodaemons,
Storming into my helpless soul
To make your bed and your domain;
— Tainted jade to whom I'm joined
Like a convict to his chain,
Like a gambler to his game,
Like a drunkard to his bottle,
Like maggot-worms to their cadaver,
Damn you, oh damn you I say!
I pleaded with the speedy sword
To win me back my liberty;
And finally, a desperate coward,
I turned to poison's perfidy.
Alas, but poison and the sword
Had only scorn to offer me:
"You're not worthy to be free
Of your wretched slavery,
You imbecile! — For if our means
Should release you from her reign,
You with your kisses would only breathe
New life into the vampire slain!"
This poem made me feel shivers... Impressive. Reminded "Vampire Bible" by its deep dark atmosphere...
Is it you who wrote it, in French?
Si oui, ce poème est magnifiquement composé, alors merci à vous.
I envy your ease at writing in both languages. Great piece of work.
Lestat,
Je vous crois, bien sûr, et si vous en avez d'autres, je les lirai avec plaisir.
A écrire dans les cahiers du "Spleen et de l'idéal".
Why should you not believe me?
But I believe in you, why do you doubt it?
" Spleen and ideal " is a section of Baudelaire, in "Les Fleurs du mal", and your poem joins in this register. I complimented you. Simplement.
Mina wrote:"Les Fleurs du mal"
I like that, Mina.
The "The Flowers of Evil" are what I imagine grows in this, savage garden.
Exactly Lestat.
I also imagine a savage garden in the middle of Flowers of Evil...
Mina.
I have had that very thought, more than a few times...
Completely surrounded by these little flowers, but every once in a while, a few make it in.
Correspondances : (my savage garden)
La Nature est un temple où de vivants piliers
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles;
L'homme y passe à travers des forêts de symboles
Qui l'observent avec des regards familiers.
Comme de longs échos qui de loin se confondent
Dans une ténébreuse et profonde unité,
Vaste comme la nuit et comme la clarté,
Les parfums, les couleurs et les sons se répondent.
II est des parfums frais comme des chairs d'enfants,
Doux comme les hautbois, verts comme les prairies,
- Et d'autres, corrompus, riches et triomphants,
Ayant l'expansion des choses infinies,
Comme l'ambre, le musc, le benjoin et l'encens,
Qui chantent les transports de l'esprit et des sens.
C. Baudelaire "Les Fleurs du mal"
